SERVICE TECHNOLOGY LEVEL 1
Introduction to Service
During the 1st quarter of the semester, enrolled students will be provided a basic understanding of automobile design and the ability to properly and safely perform basic service and repair procedures in the automotive industry. Students will learn to safely operate and utilize all shop equipment, electric and air power equipment. First aid, chemical storage and disposal, hazardous waste, workplace debris handling, ventilation, use of service manuals, flat rate manuals, bulletins, and troubleshooting charts, Internet resources will be introduced. Emphasis will be placed on developing diagnostic skills and interpreting specifications. Minor automotive service and introduction to automotive systems will be covered
Braking Principals
During the 2nd quarter of the semester, enrolled students will focus on hydraulic Breaking System Operations, Diagnosis, and Service. Repairs include Master Cylinder, Drum, Disc and Anti Lock Brake Systems Removal and Replacement of Brake System parts. Machining of Drums and Rotors, (on and off car) and Brake Fluid principals and fluid service will be included. Emphasis will be placed on Safety, tools and equipment use and proper techniques and diagnostic routines. This course will utilize a 75% hands-on experience for entry-level technician. Safety Glasses and Protective clothing will be provided. Steel toe shoes are recommended.
